TPLO Surgery

TPLO surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures used to treat cruciate ligament injuries in dogs.

Rather than replacing the damaged ligament, this procedure changes the biomechanics of the knee so that the joint can function normally without relying on the torn ligament.

During the procedure:

 • the top of the tibia (shin bone) is carefully reshaped
• the bone is stabilised using a surgical plate and screws
• the knee joint becomes stable during weight bearing

This allows many dogs to regain comfortable use of their leg and return to normal activities.

TPLO surgery is often recommended for:

 • medium and large breed dogs
• active dogs
• dogs with complete cruciate ligament rupture

Recovery involves a period of controlled activity while the bone heals, followed by gradual strengthening and return to normal movement.
